Shapeshifter's Invocation

I dance the dance of Becoming
And I am becoming yet more than I am.

They say that we are but one body,
But I say I am many -
I have run with fur
I have scurried beneath the leaves
I have chased beneath the full white moon
I have prowled the forests
I have climbed the mountains with hoof and horn
I have nested in green trees
I have soared in feathered flight
I have slithered on the breast of the Earth
I have leaped through the water bright of scale
I have crawled through the soil the I consume
I have flown on butterfly wings.

I dance the dance of Becoming
And I am becoming yet more than I am.

They say that we are but one sex,
But I say I am many -
I have been Man like the Horned One who hunts and thrusts
I have been Man like the Green One who opens and spring forth
I have been Woman like the Goddess who commands as a lioness
I have been Woman like the Earth who receives and gives.
I have been the Sacred Androgyne
In all Hir forms -
Bearded woman, delicate man,
Hermaphrodite who astounds and awes,
The Mythical Beast who stands before you in the flesh.

I dance the dance of Becoming
And I am Becoming yet more than I am.

They say that we have but one shape of soul,
But I say that I have many.
I have been human
I have been alien
I have been angel and daemon
I have been faery and satyr and dragon
Mortal and immortal,
Of this earth and not of it,
One with those around me
And set apart from them.

I dance the dance of Becoming
And I am Becoming yet more than I am.

We can all change shape,
Step in and out of our skin,
Change that skin around us,
Blend and stand out,
Be whatever we can imagine,
Imagine whatever we will.

O my sisters, my brothers, my sister-brothers,
If nothing else
Know that whatever you choose to be
Anything at all
Is beautiful
In My eyes.
